Magpie
The Magpie and the rest of its family are fond of bright objects. It has been observed that they cut up their food in correctly sized proportions. In captivity magpies have been observed counting up to get food, imitating human voices, and regularly using tools to clean their own cages. In the wild, they organize themselves into gangs when confronted by predators.
Still Hot
We’re experiencing a heat wave here in Portland, like we do every summer, and of course, that’s all anyone can talk about. Once again, our local rag, The Oregonian, writes for the lowest common denominator. Really? “Whew” on the front page? That’s almost as clever as “buh-bye“… Oh yes, they did.
